There are a lot of great tips out there to help you save money on laundry, and Tara’s got a bunch over at Deal Seeking Mom today. But I want to talk specifically about how having a laundry plan and getting organized can save you money on laundry as well!
Make Sure You Run Full Loads
Having a plan, knowing when you’re going to do laundry and making sure you’re running full loads is an easy way to save money. Running half a load uses the same amount of electricity and just a little bit less water, so it pays to put a full load in. If your dirty laundry is scattered around your house, chances are you’ve run a load only to realize you forgot something that needs to be washed and ended up running another small load. Whether you keep laundry baskets in each room or carry all dirty laundry to the laundry room each day, make sure that you know where it is so you can run full loads and save money!
Psst…bonus tip…and don’t forget that you really only need to use about half of the laundry detergent recommended on the bottle!
Fold Straight from the Dryer
I have a rule in my house. I never, ever, ever take clothes out of the dryer unless I’m folding them. Okay, that’s not quite true, but it is what I strive for. Having baskets of clean clothes waiting to be folded overwhelms me, so I try to just fold them straight from the dryer, which Becky emailed me and said she does as well.
Even better, if you fold them as soon as the dryer stops running, you’ll have less wrinkles and won’t have to use your iron as much. I’ve heard some people say they restart their dryer before they fold to dewrinkle clothes that have been sitting, but I’ve never had much luck with this without running them for a long time.
Buy Less Clothes
Having a plan and staying on top of the laundry means you’ll need less clothes for your family, which will save you money as well!
