Hi, Mandy. Just like you, my family is such a huge music fan! We also used to keep the cases and inserts but we realized they’re taking too much space—and sometimes, they just gather dust. We decided to get CD sleeves for all of our CDs and we try our best to arrange them alphabetically, by artist. So far it works. How to organize media shouldn’t be such a pain after all if we think creatively. But yeah, this may not be a solution for all because some people would like to keep the cases and inserts for possibly selling them in the future or perhaps for sentimental reasons.

Awesome ideas. Even though I am a day behind. I am really enjoying this Spring Cleaning Party and so many great ideas from so many people. Right now, I am still struggling trying to find a place for our furniture! We have downsized about a month ago, due to the economy and job issues. We now have a 3 bedroom instead of a 4 bedroom home. I have 4 kids (ages 3,6,11,&13). My living room is so cluttered as it is and then the kids bring their toys in! The two smallest ones always have something laying around and how irritating when you just decluttered! LOL. I also struggle with our DVD collection. We really love our movies but I just don't like how they look sitting on shelves! The shelves could be used for a better purpose! Thank you for your ideas. I will continue to check in here... the past two days you have had many great ideas and great support!

I'm interested in the cd sleeves you mentioned. Since you mentioned that you had six, I get the idea that you are talking about a larger container than just a single-cd sleeve. Could you describe it, please? We have a boatload of cds that need a better storage solution than the one in which they currently reside!

Thanks,
nee

Great tips! We seem to have the same mind frame when it comes to organizing our living rooms :) I think our biggest struggle would be those darn cords from all of the "equipment" I wish everything were wireless! That is definitely something I'll be tackling...

We have recently been checking books, games and movies out at the library! To make sure the library things don't get lost in the shuffle of our own things, I bought a great storage box from the Orla Kiely collection at Target and placed it right by the front door. All the items from the library are to always go back in that box so when it comes times to return them we know exactly where to look! It's been a great organizer and time saver!

These are such great tips! I hate toy clutter, but didn't have a good solution for it either. I live the toy catcher!

Thanks for the tips - I don't rotate the toys but I will definetely start doing that. We keep a bin where all the toys go at the end of the day.

My most overwhelming task is shoes and jackets/sweaters. They always end up on the couch or by the door. It drives me insane. I try to collect everything and leave it by the foot of the stairs so that when it's time to head up I can grab everything and then re-distribute.

That's a great idea for keeping mess out from under the couch. I'll share it with any of my friends that have that problem.

Toys are definitely my challenge in my living room. I think keeping my carpet clean is the other one...little mess-up monsters! I rotate toys, don't bring all the christmas gifts out at once, and purge unused toys quarterly. You can see my results on my blog.
I like the leather bound cd/dvd holders that fit like an album on a bookshelf. As for DVDs, we just don't have that many since the toddlers take up most of our time!
And for cords, I definitely label them at the plug end with a bread tag and a sharpie (so there is no adhesive to get sticky) and I do the twisty tie thing. Thanks so much for the tips Mandi! I am having such fun doing this Spring Cleaning
